Goodbye IMDb message boards. Hello...The Movie DB?

As discussed recently, IMDb is shutting down its message boards. People have been wondering where to go to discuss movies. The Movie DB seems poised to run with the ball IMDb has dropped, and I like what I'm seeing thus far.

IMDb was one of the first major "web 2.0" sites, not only with users' contributing content, but also where user interaction itself became a key aspect of the site's value.

As "social media" became a thing and user interaction has exploded, shutting down message boards seems more like regress than progress. It remains to be seen whether the IMDb experience will be reported as improving as a result of this move.

In the meantime, for all those who still want a place to get together and talk movies, it'll be interesting to see which site absorb the majority of the new traffic and emerge as the new go-to place.

I checked out a few, and am liking what I see at The Movie DB.

Firstly, they are seizing on the recent developments and making sure people know that they have message boards.

And, they are quite deliberate about their social media presence. I saw a Twitter conversation, jumped in, and they were timely, relevant and even personable in replying.

Time will tell whether this or any other one site emerges to take the baton from IMDb; as of this point in time, I'm migrating to The Movie DB unless there's more/better action elsewhere.

If you know of a site that has earned your attention as a potential new movie conversation site, please let us know in the comments below!
